DAMSELS IN DISTRESS by WHIT STILLMAN

I fully enjoyed this, closely after fully enjoying “Metropolitan.” Stillman is now a Solid 2-for-2 with me, and that’s damn good. I might have heard “Damsels” was underwhelming considering his 15 year hiatus, but I completely enjoyed it. That scathing, witty Whit Writing is fully on display. I can’t even think of a point of reference. And here, the tone was even more Silly and Screwball and Farcical than with Metropolitan, and I didn’t mind that one bit. Just Silly Feelgood Innocent Power Of Cinema times. Indeed the movie did not feeeeeeeel 2012 at all, it hearkens back to a Better time. Even if it starts a Contemporary Decadent Harpy in Greta Gerwig. SWPL Leftist Sluts playing the the WASP Righty Preppy’s movie. But I begrudgingly like Greta sorta like I begrudgingly like Lena Dunham, and Greta is much more bonable, AND I think she’s Catholic to boot. (Not that her Promiscuity hasn’t gotten her unforgiveably excommunicated!) But she plays her role in DiD very nicely. The College Girls are all Nonpromiscuous, Prim and Proper Traditionalists almost. Not used to that.

But there are a BOATLOAD of jokes about Privileged College Students being Depressed and Suicidal and Committing Suicide all the time, and I liked how frivolously that was painted, would certainly anger the Mental Health Stigma Communist Community, which is not an angle that’s often played, esp in movies. In DiD the Wimmin were portrayed as the Superior Sex in all ways: moraler, smarter, more refined, than the men, all of whom are caricatured as boorish monosyllabic barbarianz. When of course it’s the complete opposite that is the truth. Nothing like a Smart Man writing the characters and dialogue of Virtuous, Good Traditional Women. A Wimmin could not WRITE Women like this. Which made it all the funnier. All the main characters are Women but they’re not anything like the Real Life Women You know, they’re actually fun and funny and likeable, well that’s because they were written by The Respectable Whit Stillman.

I look forward to watching “Barcelona” soon and then “Last Days of Disco” soon after that. Got a unique style that is hilarious and great and fun which I can get into without reservation, beyond me wishing he’d do a comedy of manners of SWPL Leftist Brahminz than Rightist (Or at least Neoconnish) Preppy OPTIMATES, is essentially what these preppies are – Moldbug’s DYING Breed. But they are an amusing bunch. Also I liked the music in DiD, added to it quite nicely. Used the same composer from Metropolitan. Whit takes care of his people. I feeeeel he wants to save money by not buying overpriced rights to songs, and just has his composer write corny knock-offs, but these corny knock-offs IMHO work better than Actual Songs – I’m thinking of the scene in the diner in DiD, where Greta shares the Soap that Saved Her From Suicide. After the movie was over I went back and watched that scene. She was adorable, the Token Black Blue-Collars were good, AND the waitress was played by none other than Audrey from Metropolitan. Carolyn Farina. I knew she appeared in this and I was looking for her, but I missed her, because she did not age well AT ALL. I wept for All Femininity because of that. She didn’t look HORRIBLE, but the before and after are PERFECTLY illustrative of The Fall From The Prime Of Youth.

Nice sophisticated, smart, and not at ALL serious comedy. I really like this “screwball” aspect I’m seeing in Stillman. He’s not so pseudointellectual that he takes his work Tooo Seriously. In fact he doesn’t take it seriously at all and thus the entire movie has a “BOUYANCY” which lifts it above The Average Movie in Heart, Feelgoodness, and overall Quality. I gave Metro a full-blown A and I’m tempted to give this one a Full Blown A too, in fact, in some ways I liked it even MORE: just because a Bourgeois College Campus is more familiar and amenable to me than Preppy Optimate 1980s Manhattan, and I liked seeing a movie like this so out-of-time in 2012. But DiD is prob not as “IMPORTANT” as Metro, but it’s definitely a lot less underwhelming than I expected. So I’ll give it an “A” that is MARGINALLY LESS FULL-BLOWN than the Full-Blown “A” I gave to Metropolitan.

Well I finally took the plunge and bought the Laptop Computer I’ve been thinking about for at least two years. (Narcissism alert!) I might write a brief review of it later. As long as the memory and motherboard don’t crash every 5 minutes, I don’t care how slow it is. I can’t justify spending $350 for a new crappy comp, I certainly can’t justify spending $1000 for a Good New Comp, and I’ve been kinda obsessed with REFURBS for a while because I liked the price ($200), somehow I could justify spending that on a Refurb of a Formerly Good Computer, BUT I had to find a good PRICE, and a Reputable SELLER, such that I could trust that they’d tested the mem and the mobo at least. Settled on NEWEGG.COM over the somewhat less tech-oriented Amazon. Time will tell if I can trust Newegg, but they seem to be at least a Big Name in the Tech Toyz world, and it was worth it to me not to go to Best Buy and deal with those F4gg0ts trying to sell me stuff I didn’t want and a bunch of Proles, Pickup Truck Self-Destructing Neocons, Blaqz, Albanians, Millennials, Screeching Teens, Slutz, right before Crimmus. Not dissing Best Buy Employees, that’s the kind of Soul-Sucking Evil Job that TURNS you into a soulless f4ggot, but you GOTTA do it unless you want to be a Morally Lazy Loser or Handout-Entitleitis Ghetto Ape, CHONGO.

Not a Materialistic Consumerist Swine, I only Want to Buy things I really, really “Need”*. Or that can signif Improve My Life and Multiply The Resultz Of My Skillz and Energy, hahaha. It’s not like I’m some skank ho wimminz buying a $9000 macbook on my credit cardz and getting 30% APR and then wonder why they’re bankrupt by age 28. And I do insist on a music player like Spotify or Winamp and my little mp3 editing programs. Coupled with economy & standard of living that encourages Wimminz to have their own Meeeeeeeaningful (& Lucrative!) Careeeeeeers. Simply put, Wimminz don’t NEED men anymore, well if they ever NEEDED men, but now they need them much less, and they are not shy about Going THEIR Own Way!

A Traditional Wife/Mother will not think twice about abandoning her Traditional Nuclear Family if it’s possible & non-shamed for her to take a BETTER OPTION, whether in her own career, or leeching off a more successful man. see Briffault’s Law, Hypergamy.

Barb mentioned an interesting study in sweden about divorces among gay men & women; basically the lesbians were FAR AND AWAY the leaders of the divorce pack, with a rate like 160% that of Gay Men.

So, you give Wimminz the OPPORTUNITY to get rid of men, and they will quickly and gladly take it, Barb says. He points to how QUICKLY divorce rates are RISING in India and China just in the past 20 years, when they had Industrialization, Modernization, Rapid Econ Growth mirroring a more prolonged process in the US. So I laid there thinking and came to a few No-Brainer Conclusions that I thought were still profound:

MEN NEED WOMEN MORE THAN WOMEN NEED MEN.

MEN LOVE WOMEN MORE THAN WOMEN LOVE MEN.

WOMEN JUST ARE NOT GOOD AT LONG-TERM RELS, OR long-term ANYTHING.

Corrolary: A ONE-MAN, MULTI-WIMMINZ HAREM IS THE MOST STABLE FORM OF LONG-TERM REL because the WIMMINZ COMPETE & KEEP EACH OTHER IN LINE.

Even BILL GATES’s wife has her moments of doubt, that she could do better.

WIMMINZ DON’T EVEN HAVE LONG-TERM LOVE FOR ALPHAS! They can get bored with ALPHAS same as they do with Betas, it just TAKES a little longer, and the Wimminz’s feelings of Infatuation & Lust are more strong at the beginning so she prob REALLY gets into the TIUTAing for a while at the beginning, all screaming and sh1t.

Even DAVID BECKHAM’s wife gets bored of HIM, and if that marriage fails, it will be HER who initiates it, even if he is better looking-than her.

In The Modern Western World, put together a stability-loving man with a stability-destroying wimminz and the wimminz will usually win out, because she has MORE INCENTIVE to LEAVE her husband than to STAY with him.

As long as Wimminz have Lucrative Career Opportunities, this will remain the case.

So I do agree with Barb that the Artificial Womb is a Possible & def Interesting way to FREE men from their Dependence on WIMMINZ to REPRODUCE. RockingMrE doesn’t like it, but I don’t really agree 100% with him there. That’s ok. I can slightly disagree with him on one thing & still like & respect him as a man!

I had a movie marathon one day and watched this right before watching “Metropolitan.” While it’s easy to say I didn’t enjoy it as much, I have to be honest and say I enjoyed it more than I expected. Although I DID enjoy “Me and You and Everyone We Know” too. Miranda July is one of those Guilty Pleasures I Love to Talk Trash about, like Lena Dunham, but deep down I actually like her. Not gonna say she’s a total innocent though. People like July and Dunham are ruining civilization, ruining Wimmin, so I SHOULD hate them passionately. But I TALK hatefully about them but honestly like their work. WEIRD, MAN. They make movies with Horrible People and indeed similar Horrible People like them and their movies/shows/books/art, but you don’t HAVE to be a horrible person to like them, and, at heart, I believe July and Dunham are not themselves horrible people. (Although Dunham is probably MORE Horrible.)

Despite their characters being Horrible SWPL wh0res, July and Dunham are very different, so I should stop comparing them. “The Future” confirms July as a Solid Sperg Artist. She is Truly Weird and Spergy, and you don’t see many Wimmin Spergs. PseudoSpergs definitely, from Brahmin Pseudointellectual SWPL Wimmin Who Have Social Awkwardness Disorder or Introversion, but these are not true Spergs, they just don’t know how to talk to people. July is an echelon above that, she’s real Art School material, hahaha, but not pretentious to an unlikable degree. All her weird stuff flows together very “naturally, organically,” and kinda reminded me of DAVID LYNCH. It just flows out of her no tryhard, no fake, and since she’s A Wimminz, she gets bonus points for that, since their Default Natural Way is to be Fake As F00k without even knowing or trying, hahaha.

So she’s not so much about Scathing Sociological Critique because she is so antisocial. You get a lot of Weird Sperg Feeeeelings. Feeeeelings because she’s A Wimminz Artist, but Weirdness from her being a Sperg. SPERG HAMSTER, now that’s a helluva Hamster. REALLY Unpredictable. Not sure Game/Charisma really Applies to Sperg Wimmin, because SO FEW Wimmin are Spergs, and So Few Spergs are Wimmin. I kinda LIKE them, although they’d have to be a little less July-y and promiscuous for me to even think about Monogamy. My Buddy Varg Vikernes’s Faithful Wife is a Huge Sperg and I don’t blame him, hahahaha. (But I’m not entirely sure HE is. He’s probably like ME – close enough to APPRECIATE it, but not quite there personally.)

Stuff like the Talking Cat and Weird T-Shirt Dance I can’t even mention without “The Future” sounding horrible, but July makes it work. You gotta take it as a piece of Performance Art, which I acknowledge IS a lot to ask, and hard to swallow, as Performance Art is inherently gay. But July does it well. I probably want to Bang Her even if she is THIRTY-FIVE years old and a CHEATING SCUMBAG in this movie WHO THINKS SHE’S DOING NOTHING WRONG.

It helps to watch some of the commentary, where July makes it more clear that She Is Not Her Character, and that What Her Character Is Doing Is Wrong, and that The Cuckold’s Pain Is Real and valid. Though I only watched about 5 minutes of commentary.

Ultimately not as memorable as her previous movie, but still watchable and memorable, and I won’t stop watching her movies because of it. PROBABLY not gonna read her books or become a BIG FAN like many WIMMIN are, but I do wish she’d make more Feature Movies. But I wouldn’t want to LIVE with her and hear her talk Flaky Artist Talk all day in her Whiny Shrill Nasal voice, I’m not that much of A True Artist, hahaha. Not saying Sperg Wimmin Can’t Be even more Sociopathically Promiscuous than Regular Wimmin, although I think Some Spergs could be sold with a Spergy yet Frank discussion of Morality, unless they’re a hard-boiled Antimoral Sperg of course.
